  • Nothing changes without your OK
  • Undo in one click, or a warning first
  • No account, no password to share

Imports open with the paid plan. The rest works now.

What it does here

  • You attach your customer list, CSV or Excel, and ask in your own words. Ours was a CSV of 20 customers.
  • One card shows the whole import before anything changes: how many, which fields, and the first 10 rows.
  • The card warns you first: each new customer gets an account, and your store may email them a welcome.
More it does here (3)
  • It says what the card can't show. Ours: city and phone went into the billing address, and no passwords.
  • One Undo takes the whole import back out. In our run it deleted all 20 accounts it had added. Paid plan.
  • Up to 2,000 customers in one import, from a file of up to 10 MB. Paid plan.

How to add customers to WooCommerce yourself

Checked on WP 7.1, Oct 14, 2026

  1. 1. In your dashboard, the screens you log in to at yoursite.com/wp-admin, go to Users › Add User.

  2. 2. Type the customer's Username and Email from your file, then their First Name and Last Name.

  3. 3. Untick Send the new user an email about their account if you don't want to email them yet. It starts ticked.

  4. 4. Set Role to Customer and press Add User at the bottom.

  5. 5. Go to Users › All Users, open the new customer and fill in Customer billing address. Press Update User.

  6. 6. Repeat for each row of your file. WP has no CSV import for users; a user-import plugin can read the whole file.

WP makes a password for each user you add. If the email box stays ticked, the customer gets a link to set their own. Each email address can belong to one account only. WooCommerce is a trademark of Automattic Inc.

Why it won't wreck your site

  • Nothing changes until you press the button. Every change comes as a card that names it. Nothing happens until you press the button or Not now.
  • One click undoes it. When something can't be undone, like deleting a page or a plugin, the card says so before you press.

What it won't do here

  • Imports wait for the paid planThe paid plan isn't open yet. Until it is, use the steps above. The free plugin answers shop questions today, like “Which products are out of stock?”
  • No passwords or roles from your filePasswords and roles in your file are skipped. New customers start without a password; each sets one with Lost your password? on your login page.
  • Customers only, not other usersIt won't add editors, authors or other WP users from a file. Add those at Users › Add User.
  • Past orders don't come with itIt adds the accounts and their billing details. We haven't tested importing orders, so each new customer starts with none.
  • Up to 2,000 customers at a timeA longer list goes in as several imports, one file after another. Each file can be up to 10 MB.

Questions

Does WooCommerce have a customer import?

No. Its built-in importer at Products › All Products › Import handles products only. Customers are WP users with the Customer role, so you add them at Users › Add User, one at a time. For a long list, a user-import plugin from the plugin directory can read a CSV in one go. WooCommerce is a trademark of Automattic Inc.

What should a customer CSV have in it?

An email address on every row: WP needs one per account, and no two accounts can share it. Then first and last name, and billing details like city and phone. Ours had those. The chat put city and phone into the billing address and said so before the card.

Will my imported customers get an email?

Only if something sends one. At Users › Add User, WP emails them when Send the new user an email about their account is ticked. In our CMSHands run, the card warned first that each new customer gets an account and your store may email them a welcome message.

Can imported customers log in to their account?

Not until they have a password. The 20 customers in our CMSHands run had none set, and the chat said so before the card. Each customer can press Lost your password? on your login page, get a link by email and set their own.

How do I undo a customer import?

Delete the new accounts. In Users › All Users, pick Customer at the top, tick the new ones, choose Delete under Bulk actions and press Apply. Users have no trash, so this can't be taken back. In our CMSHands run, one Undo deleted all 20 accounts it had added.

Can CMSHands import my customer list for me?

Yes, on the paid plan, which isn't open yet. The chat calls it Keeper. You attach a CSV or Excel file, check one card and press Import it. Up to 2,000 customers at a time, with no passwords or roles. Until then, the free plugin answers questions about your shop, like which products are out of stock.
