Remove or hide the WP footer

A free plugin adds a chat to your WP dashboard. Type “Take everything out of the footer.” See the empty footer first, press the button, undo in one click.

Works on block themes: you'll see Appearance › Editor in your dashboard. How to tell

  • Nothing changes without your OK
  • Undo in one click, or a warning first
  • No account, no password to share

Needs WP 6.3 to 7.1, PHP 8.0 or newer, and an administrator login. One site per install.

The download is a plugin. Turning it on connects your site to cmshands.com and adds 3 small rescue files. Deleting the plugin removes them and everything it stored. What we send

Take everything out of the footer so nothing shows at the bottom of my pages.

Steps of this run
The CMSHands chat box in the WP dashboard, with the owner's request typed in: take everything out of the footer

You ask

Our test site's footer held the shop's name, phone, email, address, copyright line and the theme's credit. The owner typed this into the chat in the WP dashboard, in plain words.

Take everything out of the footer so nothing shows at the bottom of my pages.

You see it first

It checked the theme, read the footer and came back with a card. The After view shows the footer area empty. Under the card it said what would stay. Nothing has changed yet.

Ready for you to review. The card shows the one thing I can't change from here: your theme paints its footer area light grey with a little padding of its own, so a thin grey band stays at the bottom even with the footer text gone.

What goes

Press Now on the same card to see the footer as it is today. All of it goes: the name, phone, email, address, copyright line and credit. The card shows a phone view too.

You press the button

Only now does the footer change. It empties the footer, reads it back to check, and the card turns green with an Undo link.

It's on the site

The test site's home page right after, as a visitor sees it. It now ends with the three features, with no footer below. The grey band it warned about matched the page, so it didn't show.

Done. I checked afterwards, and the change is in place.
After Undo: a What was put back card listing the footer's code lines in green, then its check sentence

Undo, if you want

We pressed Undo to leave the test site as it was. Every line of the footer came back. It checked again and listed what it put back, as the footer's building blocks (it looks like code).

Undone. I checked afterwards, and it's back the way it was.

A real run on our test site, Quillmoor Pottery (WP 7.1.3, Twenty Twenty-Four), Oct 11, 2026. From asking to done, it took 38 seconds.

That's the whole job. The plugin is free: 3 changes to try it, no account. Nothing changes until you press the button.

How to remove the footer in WordPress yourself

Checked on WP 7.1, Oct 11, 2026

  1. 1. In your dashboard, go to Appearance › Editor. No Editor, only Customize? Your theme is an older one: see the note below.

The WP dashboard menu with Appearance open and Editor outlined
  2. 2. Choose Patterns in the dark menu, then Footer near the top of the list. Click the footer's picture to open it.

Patterns with Footer chosen in the list, and the footer's picture outlined: click it to open the footer
  3. 3. Press Document Overview, the three-line button at the top left. The List View opens. On Twenty Twenty-Four it shows one Group: the whole footer.

The footer open, the Document Overview button outlined, and the List View showing one Group: the whole footer
  4. 4. Press ⋮ beside Group and choose Delete. If your footer shows more than one row there, delete each one.

The Group's ⋮ menu open in the List View, with Delete outlined at the bottom
  5. 5. The footer is empty now. A blank line saying “Type / to choose a block” stays in the editor. It shows nothing on your site.

The footer after Delete: the List View shows one empty Paragraph, and the footer only says Type / to choose a block
  6. 6. Press Save at the top right. Then open your site in a new tab and scroll to the bottom of a page or two.

The Save button at the top right of the Site Editor, outlined, next to the sidebar button and ⋮

On an older (classic) theme, the kind with Appearance › Customize instead of Editor, the footer is written into the theme's own files. Look in Customize for a Footer section first: some themes let you switch parts of it off there. CMSHands can't change theme files yet.

The footer is one piece that every page shares, so emptying it clears the bottom of every page at once. Your phone, email and address may live there. If they do, put them on your Contact page first, so visitors can still reach you.

What it won't do here

Hiding it on one page only

A page with no footer, such as a landing page, needs its own page template, which it can't make yet. The questions below show how to do it yourself.

The footer area itself

It empties the footer, but the area stays. If your theme colors it, a thin band can remain. In our test run it said so before we pressed.

Older (classic) themes

Their footer sits in the theme's files, which it can't change yet. It can write a style rule that hides the footer, for you to paste.

Page-builder footers

Footers made with a page builder, a plugin such as Elementor or Divi that lays out pages its own way, aren't supported.

Why it won't wreck your site

Nothing changes until you press the button.

Every change comes as a card that names it. Nothing happens until you press the button or Not now.

You see it first.

Old words in red, new words in green. For layout, before-and-after pictures on a computer and a phone.

One click undoes it.

When something can't be undone, like deleting a page or a plugin, the card says so before you press.

Questions

Why does a band stay at the bottom after I empty the footer?

Because the footer area stays, even with nothing in it. Some themes give that area a color or space of their own. In our test run the assistant said the theme “paints its footer area light grey with a little padding of its own”. On our test site the band matched the page, so nothing showed. To hide the area too, use the CSS line above.

Is it free?

To start, yes: 3 changes with no account, then 10 a month once you add your email. Questions are free, up to 30 a day.
