Best WP podcast plugins: feed, player or both
A podcast needs a feed, a player, or both. Below are 2 or 3 free plugins for each of 3 jobs, read from wordpress.org on Oct 14, 2026. Or ask CMSHands, our free plugin, which one fits your site.
It installs plugins from the WP plugin directory only. Not premium plugins.

What it does here
- Ask which plugin fits your show. It searches the WP plugin directory, picks one, and checks it against your WP and PHP versions.
- On our test site, asked about a studio podcast, it named a player and said a player makes no feed for Apple Podcasts.
- Nothing is installed while you ask. It prepares the install as a box in the chat, and installs only when you press its button.
More it does here (1)
- Undo switches the plugin off and deletes it. Episodes and settings the plugin made can stay.

Why it won't wreck your site
- Nothing changes until you press the button. Every change comes as a card that names it. Nothing happens until you press the button or Not now.
- Asking changes nothing. A question only reads your site. It looks things up and tells you. No card, no button.
- One click undoes it. When something can't be undone, like deleting a page or a plugin, the card says so before you press.
What it won't do here
- Premium pluginsIt installs plugins from the WP plugin directory only. A premium plugin comes as a zip file that you upload yourself.
- Setting up your showIt installs the plugin and switches it on. We haven't tested it changing a plugin's settings yet, so you add your show's details yourself.
- Uploading your episode filesIt can't upload audio files. You add each episode's mp3 to your Media library yourself.
- Undo removes the plugin, not what it madeUndo switches the plugin off and deletes it. Episodes and settings the plugin made while it was on can stay.

Questions
What are the best WordPress podcast plugins?
It depends on what your show needs. For a feed that Apple Podcasts and Spotify read, the most used are Seriously Simple Podcasting and PowerPress. For a player on your pages, Compact WP Audio Player and HTML5 Audio Player. We read the numbers above from wordpress.org on Oct 14, 2026. Pick one that many sites use and its makers keep updated.
Do I need a podcast plugin, or just an audio player?
You need a podcast plugin if you want your show in Apple Podcasts or Spotify. Those apps read a feed, a list of your episodes, and a player doesn't make one. For episodes on your site only, a player is enough, or WP's own Audio block. On our test site, a WP site we run to try every task first, the chat picked a player and said it makes no feed.
Will these plugins work on my site?
Most will, if your WP and PHP are up to date. On Oct 14, 2026, Seriously Simple Podcasting said it was tested up to WP 7.0.7, not 7.1. Podlove Podcast Publisher asked for PHP 8.0 or newer. PHP is the language WP runs on; your host sets its version. When you ask the chat, it checks a plugin's needs against your site before it suggests one.
Will it set the podcast plugin up for me?
We haven't tested that yet. It installs the plugin and switches it on once you press the button in the chat. Most podcast plugins then add their own menu item, where you add your show's details and episodes. Changed your mind? Undo switches the plugin off and deletes it.
Is it free?
To start, yes: 3 changes with no account, then 10 a month once you add your email. Installing one plugin is one change. Questions are free, up to 30 a day (100 with your email), so asking which plugin fits your site costs nothing.
